Between the changing leaves, the crisp air, and pumpkin-flavored everything, this past week has been absolute bliss. Autumn is just beginning, so if you haven’t gotten into the spirit of the season yet, maybe this post will leave you feeling a bit more inspired!
When it comes to seasonal fabrics, the patterns at big-name craft stores can begin to look a bit generic. Whenever I want a project to stand out, I always head over to Spoonflower. If you aren’t familiar with Spoonflower, it’s a service where you can design your own fabric and have it custom-printed! And, if you lack the time, energy, or resources to create your own designs, you can order designs that others have uploaded and made available for purchase. You can order from a variety of fabric types, including broadcloth, linen, suede, satin, and more — even knits! (I personally adore their organic cotton sateen.)
If you’ve been searching for the perfect print for your next fall project, search no further! I’ve compiled this list of my favorite Spoonflower designs that have popped up during the Fall 2017 season. (And just in case you see a print you want to use but have no ideas, I’ve included some suggested projects, too.) Click the image or the link below it to find the listing on Spoonflower.

Best 2017 Autumn Spoonflower Designs
“Deers In Forest In Orchid“ by Audrey Smit
Soft purples and violets are just as welcome in an autumn color palette as warm hues. The deer and pine tree illustrations give this design just the right amount of woodland aesthetic to make this print appropriate for any cheerful fall project!
Project Ideas: Child’s Poncho | 1940’s Vintage Apron | Scoop-Neck Sleepwear
“Pumpkin Spice Plaid“ by Jessica Prout
You can’t have fall without pumpkin spice, and plaid makes it twice as nice! A great way to add a subtle “Halloween touch” to a casual fashion project or dress up an accent piece of autumn decor. Show that plaid isn’t just for the winter holidays!
Project Ideas: DIY Maxi Flannel Skirt | 15-Minute Plaid and Lace Infinity Scarf | Fall Plaid Crossbody Bag
“Ghosts and Stars Halloween“ by Caja Wong-Chung
Absolutely adorable ghosts with gentle expressions to match the soft orange background. Perfect for any kid-oriented project, or even one for a grown-up with a more “cutesy” aesthetic!
Project Ideas: Play All Day Dress | Reversible Fabric Headband | Keyhole Closure Tank Top
“Fall Botanicals“ by Shelby Allison
I just love the use of turquoise and peach in this pattern to change up the usual reds and oranges we see in fall prints!
Project Ideas: Mini Book Tote | Seat Cushions | Unpaper Paper Towel
“Seed Pods in the Fall“ by Sarah Parr
Of course, if you want a more traditional autumn color scheme, you can’t go wrong with this design. It stays unique by featuring seeds rather than leaves, so it will still stand out amidst other fall fabrics!
Project Ideas: Zipper Tote Bag | Easy Oven Mitt | Wrap Casserole Carrier
“Woodland Animals Pink and Teal“ by Andrea Lauren
Who says fall colors can’t be bright and cheerful? Again, this print mixes it up by using a teal and pink color scheme, while the rustic critters make it appropriate for autumn. (Note: it’s available in a variety of color schemes if this one isn’t quite your style!)
Project Ideas: Knit Receiving Blankets | Elastic Waist Skirt | Girls’ Pullover Dress
“Black Cat Halloween“ by Katie Vaz
A subtly-spooky print that features a variety of Halloween and autumn illustrations. I love that the oranges are deeper and richer so it looks more refined, rather than in-your-face Halloween.
Project Ideas: Fabric Drawstring Basket | Infinity Scarf | Two-Tier Gathered Skirt
“This Is Fall“ by Valeriia Miller
Even if you hate the pumpkin spice latte trend, you can’t deny there are few things better in life than a hot cup of coffee on a brisk autumn day. This print is perfect for showcasing both your love for fall, and your love for your favorite brew.
Project Ideas: Knot Bag | DIY Coffee Skirt | Long Sleeve Shirt Dress
“Dapper Fox“ by Kelly Legg
This print is perhaps the most eclectic of the bunch, but it’s at the top of the list for me! The art style is just delightful and, because it’s a larger-scale design, it can be used for wide a variety of projects.
Project Ideas: Skirt with Piped Pockets | Pillow Cover With Piping | High-Low Dress (use as contrasting bodice fabric)
“Snowy Owl and Friends“ by Brenda Salzano
This design caught my eye because it felt like the perfect “transition” print for those final autumn weeks as we move into the winter months.
Project Ideas: Color Block Pillow | Misses’ Jacket | Anne Dress
If you enjoyed this list, let me know — I’d be happy to compile another one for winter! And if you have an autumn fabric design you’ve found (or one you’ve made yourself), feel free to leave it in the comments. Happy crafting, everyone!
P.S. Share your autumn DIY project in the comments; I’d love to see what you make with these designs!
